説明Description and Transcription from Henry Paget-Lowe (Juha-Matti Rajala):[this 6th page concludes the letter (from HPL to Price, 20 October 1932) from here: www.flickr.com/photos/cthulhuwho1/6797788374/ in/photostream/] my line. “In the Vault” isn’t very good story. It’s not quite bad enough to be repudiated, but I’d hate to be represented by it. If the enclosed list (which please return, since I use it in connexion with loans to others) & the accompanying comments aren’t sufficient for guiding purposes, let me know, & I’ll send any eligible story you may name. Or if you take my advice, you’ll drop the idea of including anyone so incompatible with the hard guy in whose hand the business destinies of the venture rest.Tarbis’s rejection is quite typical of Satrap Pharnabazus—the fellow has just sent back one of Klarkash-Ton’s finest phantasies on the ground that his herd of jackasses couldn’t like its poetic atmosphere! It must be terrible to have so little subtlety & insight that every undiagrammed story leaves one in a quandary. Well—maybe there’ll be another weird magazine some day which will hail Tarbis as the find of the century, & give it first place & cover design! Caprice & prejudice are paramnount in the decisions of the editorial fraternity. My latest revisory job comes so near to pure fictional ghost-writing that I am up against all the plot-devising problems of my by-gone auctorial days. There is a horrible wax-work museum in London whose half-mad proprietor claims that not all the nameless monstrosities displayed therein are artificial. Dogs are horribly sacrified to an entity which is not on display. A man spends the night locked in with the object . . . . . Dear me, if this ever ets to professional hands, I fear they’ll find it strikingly unpleasant & depressing!Just received Derleth’s new serious novelette—“Faraway House”. Looks like damn good stuff. And so it goes. Eblis & Tsathoggua be with thee on the 100,000-word a day programme!
