| 説明 | 6> Tuesday morning 1st of May 2007 - sightseeing Split.After we had taken a shower our hostess asked if we would like to have some tea. We also got some biscuits and together with our bananas and grapes this was our breakfast. When we wanted to leave, to examine the city centre, our hostess asked if we could wait a moment. She rang at the neighbours and a crowd of children ran towards us. The oldest girl looked just as old as Eva, she spoke fluently English and she asked if we wanted to join them to walk to Marjan. We did not know who is Marjan, but this proved be a hillock where the complete city Split is spending their free time with the family. Also on Labour Day. Our hostess was walking ahead with the youngest kids. Eva and me were exchange English sentences with the oldest girl. She proves to 14 years old already. Halfway the mount the smallest little boy could no longer keep up our speed, so one by one we took the boy on our neck. On top of the mount it was even busier with people. A fanfare band played music and a market held. Because of Labour Day many people were carrying a red eyelet flower. Eva and I had seen enough of it, however. So we left them behind at the fanfare and walked back down the hill to the old city. The centre has been built for a large part within the walls of a 1700 years old Roman palace. On little sairways you could get on the roofs and in narrow streets. In the course of centuries the complete space between the palace walls was occupied with houses is. But everywhere you could still find left over pieces of Roman walls, windows and gates. Passing by the market we walked towards the port to see if we could take a ferry to one of the islands near the coast. But because we had seen on Internet that it might be heavy rain on Thursday, we decided to stay on the main land and continue our trip along the coast. A bus to the little town of Trogir would leave within 15 minutes. This town is located on a tiny island which can be reached by bridge from the main land. Eva would wait for me at the bus station whereas I would run as quickly as possible to the pension to pick up our luggage. |
