説明 | Partying into the night after Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is forced to resign - Talaat Harb - early hours of 12 February 2011. It's difficult to notice the woman in black who is sitting on the car roof. She also has her hands on the flag. The hours after Mubarak was forced from office witnessed possibly the biggest all night party Cairo has ever scene. The streets were packed with men and women, all overwhelmed by a euphoric feeling that their country finally had a chance to embark on a new future. More than that they sensed they had set an example to the world of the power of peaceful protest to triumph over an intransigent police state. Many of them could barely believe what they had achieved as they hugged each other, waved flags and watched the multiple fireworks. Many of the women in the protest movement hoped that this future would be both more democratic and more egalitarian. Yet even as groups of women celebrated, some men took advantage of the huge crowds and noise to assault lone women in nearby Tahrir Square. |
