| 説明 | In the early 20th Century, these gasoline yarders were built so that small logging companies could harvest timber efficiently. Before these, yarders were steam powered and very large, only for the big logging firms. They built about 1200 of these here in Sedro-Woolley, quite a successful product. Made using Fordson Tractor parts, they were just what the independent loggers wanted. When harvesting timber in the mountains, they would build roads up on the ridges, then drag the logs up to the road to truck to the mills. If you have seen the TV shows about logging, you have seen how it is done here today in the Northwest. Before the yarders were invented, trees would be dragged by animals to the rivers and floated to the mills. |
