| 説明 | Looking at the southeast corner of the Library at Woodrow Wilson House. The door leading to the solarium was behind me. The windows just to the left look out on the south gardens. On the table is a statue of what seems to be an American Revolution-era bugler. A movie projector, given to Wilson (a huge movie fan) by Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, sits in the corner. Wilson was the first president to view movies in the White House. A small escritoire (a writing table that houses books) is against the far wall.Wilson's own chair occupies the center of this image. Left-bottom, just visible, is the rocking chair used by Mrs. Wilson. Woodrow Wilson sat in this chair almost every day that he was able to do so, warmed by the fire, reading, and watching silent movies. All the furniture, mementos, and keepsakes in Woodrow Wilson House are originals -- many of them obtained by Wilson during his victory tour of Europe after World War I.Woodrow Wilson House is located at 2340 S Street NW in Washington, D.C . After Wilson's second term as president ended on March 4, 1921, he moved into this house with his wife and two servants. Crippled by the stroke that ended his presidency, Wilson died in the house on February 3, 1924.The house was built in 1915 by Henry Parker Fairbanks, a Boston businessman and carpet industry lobbyist, and designed by celebrated architect Waddy Wood. |
