ITheatre. Rebuilt 1820-21 by John Nash, contemporary with his Regent Streetand Suffolk Street development, and resited to close Charles II Streetvista. Stucco, slate roof. Augustan neo-classicism. 2 storeys and loftysheer attic storey. 7 window bays wide. Giant pedimented portico of 6Corinthian columns built out over pavement with entrance doorway to eachflank with oculus above. The back wall of portico has 5 archivolt and keyarched doorways with 5 architraved sash windows to 1st floor. Themodillion bracket cornice of portico is returned across the flanks. Thetall sheer attic wall above portico is pierced by a row of radial glazedoculi set in panel below frieze which with main cornice and blocking courseextends the width of the facade. Rear to Suffolk Street is stuccoed, 4storeys, 5 windows wide; rusticated ground floor with central rusticated-pilaster, corniced doorway ; 1st floor has arcaded windows (unique theatrefeature in that they give directly on to the backstage) with sunk panelsbeneath sills; cornice below attic storey with elliptical windows betweensunk panel pilasters.
