| 説明 | This church stands on the site of a substantial Roman-period residence which some have identified with the house of Caiaphas, the high priest. Hence this site is said to be where Jesus had an informal hearing with the priestly leadership before being handed over to Pilate for punishment. The large 'room' cut into the bedrock below the church is said to be the cell where Jesus was held. It is more likely a large cistern built to hold rainwater for the use of the household. |
