Van Eesteren werkt er aan een prestigieus project: een verkeersplan voor het centrum van Parijs. Hij komt met een radicaal voorstel: sloop het bestaande stadscentrum en vervang dat door brede verkeerswegen met hoogbouw. Het project is een slijpsteen voor zijn geest. Hij komt tot het inzicht dat een goed stedenbouwkundig ontwerp niet alleen gebaseerd is op de historische stad maar ook op de analyse van verkeer, recreatie, wonen en werken. Van Eesteren worked on a prestigious project there: a traffic plan for the centre of Paris. He came up with a radical proposal: demolish the existing city centre and replace it with broad thoroughfares flanked by high-rise construction. The project sharpened his mind. He came to the insight that a good urban design is not based on the historical city alone, but on the analysis of traffic, recreation, living and working as well.
