| 説明 | Current remains of the wall painting above the chancel arch in the church of St Mary, Earl Soham, Suffolk. This, along with other wall paintings, was discovered by local schoolmaster, Hamlet Watling in the 1870's when the church of St Mary, Earl Stonham in Suffolk was restored. This is the only painting that now remains in reasonable condition, apart from a fragment of a St George scene, which is more faded than the Doom and almost impossible to photograph on account of the large organ placed in front of it. Luckily Mr Watling also made watercolour copies of the other decaying paintings and copies of his copies ( which were in turn destroyed by beetle attack) hang in the church today to show us what has been lost. |
