説明 | Georgia was invaded several times in its history by Persian, Arab, and Turkish/Ottoman forces, though only a few ruins and structures, and the 19th Century Mosque remain as testimony to any past Islamic occupation and inhabitation of the city. The bath house, on the left, features beautiful and ornately styled mosaic tile work common in the Muslim world, and was owned by the noble Orbeliani family at one point. The Mosque with its simple red brick minaret serves the Muslim Azeri community located nearby, and is only a few blocks from various churches and a synagogue, illustrating the long-standing generally good relations between the three religions in Georgia. The Erekle Baths are just on the left, out of frame. |
