Less than 24 hours after I took this photo and while in police custody, the young man died.On June 13, 2011, at around 6:20 a.m., patrol officers from Topanga, Devonshire and Mission Divisions responded to the 15700 block of Lassen Street to conduct a burglary investigation. Pursuant to the investigation, 18-year-old Colby Baker was detained. Baker was placed in the rear of a police car pending transportation to the area station. While seated in the police car Baker became ill and the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene. He was transported to a local hospital and was admitted in critical condition. On June 14, 2011, at around 3:15 a.m., Baker passed away at the hospital. Force Investigation Division personnel responded to the hospital. The initial investigation determined Baker may have overdosed on narcotics. There was no force used by any officer involving Baker.
