| 説明 | I loved the music video for Bad Romance...Bad Romance ♫♪...the futuristic revision of a Russian Mafia auction in which Lady Gaga is drugged by a group of supermodels and sold to the metal-jawed underworld lord who fancies her. Even as she does her drugged-up seductress dance for him, she gives him fair warning. ("I'm a free bitch, baby!") During the bidding, she stands in her twelve inch Alexander McQueen heels as a shower of diamonds, frozen in time surrounds her. After the auction, we see her slowly approaching a beautiful bed, on which the criminal who purchased her is waiting, She is wearing a fur wrap with a cape/train made from an entire polar bear. He seems pleased, but there is something unsettling about the emotionless pageantry of Gaga's approach. When she drops the fur wrap and exposes the beauty of her body in exquisite lingerie, he and his bed spontaneously ignite, and she poses, back arched and head held high at the foot of the bed until it is reduced to smoldering ashes. The shock value of the final image - showing how she responds to this situation - is both disturbing and delightfully ironic and funny. The first time I saw this video, I knew I'd be a Lady Gaga fan for some time. Like David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes, the Eurythmics Sweet Dreams, A-Ha's Take On Me, Peter Gabriel's Big Time, Michael (and Janet) Jackson's Scream, Madonna's Like a Prayer, and Tori Amos's Silent All These Years, this groundbreaking video stands out even amongst the best of show. The song is also multi-layered in meaning. It can be interpreted (and has been!) in so many ways. To some, it is a simple romance-gone-bad song sung by a woman obsessed - sexually obsessed, that is - with a man of power. Not necessarily going to be a meaningful relationship, but that's not what she is looking for: "I want your loving, I want your revenge, I want your love. I DON'T WANT to be FRIENDS!" A line so important to the song she immediately repeats it in French! On the far extreme, the video has been interpreted as an expression of the occult, or a commentary on conspiracy theories like the Illuminati!Gaga also adds a few fun flourishes to the song, such as the Hitchcock motif. She manages to mention a number of his movies' titles in the song - but worked into the lyrics seamlessly.Add to this the most astounding art direction, the odd and unique choreography, and the adulation of high fashion, and there isn't an uninteresting moment in the mix.If you haven't seen the video (hard to imagine - as of this writing, it is the second most watched music video of all time...) I urge you to give yourself the visual treat. You can find it at:Bad Romance - Lady GagaAs you probably have guessed by now, I am a great fan of Gaga and in particular this boundary-breaking video. As a matter of fact, I have created a commemorative mosaic for every major video she has released since this one. Yet, I never released one for Bad Romance! Not that I didn't try - I must have started at least twenty ideas in twenty different directions, over time, creating from one to fifty versions each! A few I offered to fan clubs, etc. and they were well received, but none of them ever felt like "THE ONE" I wanted to represent the extraordinary Bad Romance music video, However, based on the inspiration from other mosaic artists I have been experimenting with different mosaic styles and techniques, and this is the first version ever that just feels right to me! I hope you enjoy this tribute to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance! |
