| 説明 | Having come down to Cove Bridge I could see lots of people walking up to Goats Hawse, presumably on their way up to the Old Man of Coniston.After some debate, I decided to follow them up. Initially the weather was good (gloomy but good) and after some scrambles I arrived at the rather gloomy looking Goats Water.Unfortunately, barely had I got to the other side of Goats Water and the weather completely changed. The gentle wind coming from behind me was replaced by a howling wind even stronger than the one I'd encountered earlier at Wanla Scar coming right at me. To go even higher in such conditions seemed frankly like insanity - a decision also reached by a group of four walkers who were ahead of me and already half way up the hill to Goats Hawse.I turned round and for the second time in the day, headed for lower climbs. All thoughts of going up to the Old Man of Coniston were banished. It just wasn't going to be the weather for it. This I knew. Especially once the large hailstones started hitting me. |
