| 説明 | On the Herbert Glacier trail near Juneau, Alaska.This is part of a series of pictures I took to try and show how the trees in the Tsongas churn the topsoil and create conditions for more verdant growth. There isn't very much topsoil in the forests near glaciers so once trees get past a certain size they're susceptible to winds that can knock them down. This is an essential part of the life of the forest because there aren't many forest fires in the rain-forest so this is the main way that turn-over (literally) occurs. |
