| 説明 | This is the summit of Benbrack 1902' the arch is the work of the environmental sculptor Andy Goldsworthy who lives and works out of his not far away home at Penpont. Arches seem to be a current passion for Goldsworthy with similar impressive/intrusive installations on the Sussex chalklands and also at Goodwood Park. Whether they work or not, I am as yet undecided, maybe they will grow on me but I'm not sure. There are three or four of them on Galloway summits, from this location I could see another on a distant skyline, all are made from dressed stone from a local quarry, no cement is used and the whole thing weighs about 27 tons, maybe they'll slowly sink beneath the surface bog and so puzzle future archaeologists across aeons of time as yet unpassed. One thing for sure is that Andy Goldsworthy is making his mark on the land though like many another my preference would incline toward nothing more obvious than the temporary lesion of a passing footprint. |
