| 説明 | Chapel of the Cross Church and Cemetery, Madison, Mississippi. Built by the Johnstone family on their plantation, Annandale, this chapel was where the wedding of Helen Johnstone and Henry Grey Vick was to take place in May 1859, but Henry was killed in a duel a few days before the wedding. Helen ("The Bride of Annandale") is said to have worn her wedding dress to his funeral and, though ultimately marrying somebody else, to have loved Henry for the rest of her life. According to local legend, Helen's ghost is still seen at times, dressed in white and sitting on a bench near Henry's grave. |
