説明 | Bocage plantation Circa 1837Bocage Plantation located in Darrow, Louisiana is one of the many fine examples of Greek Revival architecture found along the Mississippi river. Bocage was a wedding gift from wealthy planter Marius Pons Bringier to his 14 year old daughter Francoise “Fanny” Bringier upon her marriage to Christophe Colomb in 1801 who at the time was in his 30’s. While the original house was built in 1801, the present mansion is believed to have been built in 1837, most likely replacing the original house which had probably burned. Reportedly, Christophe enjoyed the finer things in life and left the management of the plantation to his young wife while he spent his days lazily traveling up and down the river visiting friends and neighbors. The Columbs had eight children . Fanny died in 1827 with Christophe passed away a few years later in 1832. At this time Bocage was passed down to one of their sons and his wife.Bocage is elaborately decorated with the finest period furnishings and now operates as a Bed and Breakfast.www.bocageplantation.com/index.html |
