| 説明 | Camp Bonifas is a United States Army base that lies on Highway 1, the old main route between Seoul and Pyongyang. For tours of the Joint Security Area, once visitors are screened and cleared at the South Korean military checkpoint at Imjingak a kilometer to the south, they are brought here. They are given a lunch at the Sanctuary, where all ingredients, except kimchi, are brought in from the United States.Ballinger Hall then serves as the briefing area, where visitors are given an overview of the JSA, as well as reminders on what they may and may not do. Visitors are also required to sign an English-language waiver, provided by the United States, the United Nations, and the Republic of Korea on a US Letter sized sheet of paper, that acknowledges that in the unlikely case of enemy hostile action, the visitor's safety cannot be guaranteed. The JSA tours are open to most foreigners with a 3-day advance notice. South Koreans must apply 60 days in advance through their government. Nationals of enemy belligerent nations of the Korean War (North Korea and China), and nationals of nations hostile to the United States (such as Cuba and Iran), may not join a South Korean JSA tour at all.The US Army plays the host in this area, as the Korean War had ended in a cease-fire, and while the US signed the cease-fire as the representative of the United Nations coalition, South Korea refused to sign it. |
