| 説明 | Seen at Museum of Korean Emigration History, Wolmido, Incheon.This passport is typical of those issued to emigrants who left Incheon in 1902 in search of a new opportunity in Hawaii.116 Koreans sailed from Incheon. Preliminary health screening in Nagasaki whittled down the party to 102, who then boarded the USS Gaelic, arriving in Hawaii on January 13th, 1903. Of them, a secondary health check rejected an additional 16 people, leaving a party of 86 to settle in Hawaii. This was the first officially sanctioned Korean emigration to the United States of America. |
