| 説明 | Lt. Col. Michael McCurry, commander, 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade and Command Sgt. Maj. William McGaha place the 25th Infantry Division combat patch, each on the other’s right sleeve, during a ceremony held March 29 at their forward operating base gym in northern Iraq. The “Arctic Lightning” cavalry troopers of 6-17th from U.S. Army Alaska gathered together to add another small part to the rich history of their air cavalry squadron and carry on a military tradition that originated in World War II. Officially known as ‘shoulder sleeve insignia-former wartime service’, the ‘combat patch’ is authorized for all soldiers assigned to Army units which actively participate in or support ground combat operations against hostile forces. The 6-17th is currently serving in northern Iraq and is projected to be one of the last active duty Army units to serve in Operation New Dawn. |
