説明We don't do much more than pass through Acre (also known as Akko) which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated on a low promontory at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. This is a view from the wall dating back to Crusader and Ottoman times looking towards the Mosque of Pasha el-Jezzar that was built in 1781 CE and houses a lock of hair said to be from the beard of the Prophet Muhammad..Acre began as a farming community around 3000 BCE but was abandoned a couple of centuries later possibly due to rising seawaters. During the Middle Bronze Age (c. 2000–1550 BCE) a large town was established on the site which has been continuously inhabited ever since, albeit with wildly fluctuating population levels as conquest and destruction have been regular occurrences. For example, Alexander the Great (356-323 BCE) fought the Persians here. Cleopatra (r. 51-30 BCE) captured the city. During the Third Crusade, England's Richard the Lionheart took Acre in 1191 CE on his way to Jerusalem where he signed a peace treaty allowing Christian access with Saladin who had recaptured Jerusalem for the Muslims in 1187 CE. By 1221 CE Acre was the last remaining Christian stronghold in the Holy Land when it fell to the Mamluk Sultanate which destroyed it.Napoleon lay siege to the city in 1799 CE but was rebuffed by the Ottoman Turks. The British captured Acre in 1918 CE during World War I. Israel captured the city in 1948 CE.According to the Old Testament, the Israelite tribe of Asher was unable to drive the Canaanites out of Acre, then known as Akko [Judges 1:31]. According to the New Testament, the Apostle Paul spent a day in Acre, then known as Ptolemais [Acts 21:7].Acre is the holiest city of the Baháʼí Faith in Israel. On Google Earth:wall in Acre 32°55'27.50"N, 35° 4'20.09"Eel-Jazzar Mosque 32°55′21.74″N, 35°4′13.13″E
