| 説明 | Chris on the train told me the other day that KQED recently did a story on albino redwoods."Albino redwoods? Huh?" I asked. These trees are unable to produce chlorophyll because of a genetic mutation. It lives as a parasite by drawing nutrition from the roots of its parent tree. These trees are extremely rare. Only about 25 albino redwoods are known to exist. Six of them are in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Henry Cowell is just a 10 minute bike ride from my house, so I hopped on the bike to search for one of these mythical white trees. The park doesn't put a huge sign advertising the presence of the tree, but once you know it's there it's pretty obvious. I've always thought this tree was just a sickly redwood.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albino_redwood |
