| 説明 | Reprinted from "The Oxen and the Axe"Gene Brown (1918 - 1992)Gene was raised Jean Pettifer on the Pettifer farm near Eagle Hill, south of Denbigh. She was born on March 22, 1918, one of nine children born to Melina and Jack Pettifer. She married Iven Brown, and they had two daughters: Evelyn (Petzold) and Barbara. Gene and Irv ran two country stores for over twenty years, one at the head of Mazinaw Lake and the other 5 km. north of Mazinaw. She always had a keen interest in history and writing. Gene continued her education by correspondence courses throughout her lifetime. She was a well-known artist in the area and had an amazing sense of humour, entertaining her house guests with jokes and great food. She used the name Gene Brown as a pen name when signing her artwork or stories.
