| 説明 | A very cool surprise was waiting for the keepers of the reptile & bird house. They were preparing an area for rain tanks in the holding area below the main exhibit and noticed something odd as they scraped paint. They believe this is the rotation schedule from the very first zookeepers in the The Bird House, later renamed the Bird and Reptile House, which opened in 1939! It is currently the oldest exhibit building in the zoo.The building was designed when the animals were merely curiosities and entertainment,and the exhibits are basically rectangular cement boxes. You really get the sense of how different the zoo environments were back then, and how far they have come. Although little can be done about the box like spaces, the walls are painted, branches and various adornments ad some semblance of environments. The keepers are passionate about all their charges and use creative ingenuity improve exhibits, and add frequent enrichment's to stimulate. It's obvious the animals are very well cared for and healthy. |
