| 説明 | The Church of St Mary the Virgin, generally referred to simply as St Mary Redcliffe, was first noted on the site in 1158, although by then it may have been 50 years old or more, but as there is no reference to it in the 1086 Domesday Book it cannot have existed then. For a local parish church it is exceptionally large, with an 80 metre / 274 ft spire, although that is not the original, that having been felled by a storm, possibly by lightning. The present building dates from 1185, with additions, modifications and extensions underway until 1872. It is Grade 1 Listed. |
