説明 | Photos taken during a weekend excursion to Scotland by special train, including off train options.Views of Aberdeen, in and around Union Terrace Gardens, which were completely restructured between 2019 and reopening on 22 December 2022. The original sunken gardens dated from 1879 and were (and are) bounded on the west by Union Terrace, by the Den Burn to the east, although that is now underground and supplanted by a railway and by the Den Burn dual-carriageway.On the north side is Rosemount Viaduct, noted for the three adjacent buildings known as Education, Salvation and Damnation, the city library, St Marks Church and His Majesty's Theatre, seen from left to right in this photo. The theatre, prominent in the foreground, was completed in 1906, the glass fronted extension (with three storeys below street level) being opened in 2005. This is one of only two theatres in the world that retained 'His' in their title during the reign of Elizabeth II, the other being in Perth, Australia, with which it was twinned in 2006. That theatre had been completed two years earlier, in 1904. |
