| 説明 | Built in 1925, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Charles Sumner Frost to serve as the main wing of St. Luke’s Hospital. The building stands 19 stories and 286 feet (87 meters) tall at its central wing, and features a lower Gothic Revival-style chapel to the south, and to the north, a Stripped Classical Revival-style wing, known as the Morton Clinic, which was added in 1948. The building remained in use as a hospital until the 1970s, when it moved to a more modern facility at the Rush Medical Center in Streeterville. The building’s central section is clad in red brick with a partially rusticated stone base, decorative reliefs, large arched bays at the second and third floors, cornices with dentils, corinthian pilasters, and one-over-one replacement windows. To the south is a smaller chapel with a stone-clad exterior, pinnacles, gothic arched bays, a gabled roof, and buttresses on the north and south facades. The Morton Clinic building is more austere, and clad in red brick with stripped Classical Revival details, stone trim, and one-over-one windows, similar to the Schweppe Memorial Building south of the main hospital complex. The building is a part of the St. Luke's Hospital Complex, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The building today serves as an apartment complex, which opened after a major renovation in 1996. |
