説明 | Built in 1917-1921, this Renaissance Revival-style building was designed by Worthmann and Steinbach for the congregation of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, founded in 1890 to serve the rapidly growing Polish community on Chicago’s Northwest side. The building is clad in red brick with terra cotta trim, a stone base, three octagonal towers with domed roofs, roman arched bays, clock faces on the largest of the church towers, a dome above the crossing of the nave and transepts, stained glass windows, corinthian columns flanking the central entrance bay, bronze doors, and both doric and corinthian pilasters. The church was designated a Minor Basilica in 2003. Today, the building remains in use as a Catholic Church. |
