| 説明 | i have never had any success with pears so I have stuck to apples.I have a couple of pear trees planted about 15 years ago but they have never produced anything other than small numbers of tiny rock hard pears. I also planted a wild pear (which has grown ok and flowers well) in case they werent great at pollinating each other, The wild pear has never set fruit even though it seem healthy,I often wondered if I have all 3 of them in places that are just too exposed. I realised that I had a sheltered area on the North side of the polytunnel that might be more suitable. It gets plenty of sun but has good shelter from the wind. So I planted 2 pear trees on Quince A rootstock (so medium sized tree - ~5 metres) This one is the ubiquitous Conference,tbh, I dont actually mind if they dont ever come to much in terms of edible pear production. They will be interesting to watch - gardens are a set of long running experiments & for me that is the most interesting thing about gardening.
