| 説明 | Xylocopa sonorina is our largest native bee. This female is at or above 1" in length (25 mm) and she's completely black. She had just lapped nectar from a nearby sage and rested briefly on the sidewalk. Note the whitish coloing on her thorax: that's likely pollen from a sage flower that dabbed her while nectaring. This helps certain sage plants to cross pollinate.My index finger provides perspective. She didn't mind me for the moment but soon flew away. |
