| 説明 | It's hard to see, but in the oval just below the head are the words "El Grito" (the shout). The shout was the call to arms by the Mexicans against the Spanish rulers. The one who shouted was Father Hidalgo. The reason that he did it was that under Spanish rule, only people born in Spain to two Spanish parents, could hold any office in Mexico. Father Hidalgo started the revolutionary war that drove the Spanish from America. He was captured and executed by the Spanish, but the Mexicans won the fight. |
