| 説明 | Built in 1840, this Italianate and Greek Revival-style house was designed by Alexander J. Davis and built by Harpin Lum to serve as one of four houses built for the school’s faculty when the university moved from Detroit to Ann Arbor. The house was expanded with the addition of a third floor and renovated in the Italianate style in 1863, was further expanded with a western wing in 1871, and further renovated in 1920, resulting in the present size and appearance of the structure. The building is clad in stucco with six-over-six double-hung windows with wooden shutters, a hipped roof with bracketed eaves, a front portico with fluted doric columns, and various wings to the side and rear of the original structure. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970, and is a contributing structure in the University of Michigan Central Campus Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Today, the building serves as the official residence of the President of the University of Michigan, and is the oldest remaining building at the University of Michigan. |
