| 説明 | I visited Chichester Cathedral and the adjoining Bishops Gardens, this scene caught my eye in its mix of nature, old historic looking brick wall, and even older spire. I was amazed to learn that this cathedral is 950 years old. There are exhibits inside that show pretty well the history that this place has witnessed, and the people that must have passed by and stared at the same scene I'm looking at. There is a lot of preserved history in the UK, I appreciate that efforts are made to do so. It isn't easy going for cathedrals, from what I can see, they often rely on donations and volunteers for the increasingly expensive upkeep. With the changing role of worship in modern society, I wonder how long this can be kept up. After a bit of searching I learned that about 3500 churches in England have closed over the past 10 years, and 900 are on Historic England's "heritage at risk" register. |
