| 説明 | NASA image Feb. 11, 2011Fred Lewis, the Director of Weather for the US Air Force and a team of 6 other members of the USAF weather services visited with the Space Weather Laboratory at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. on Feb. 11, 2011 to plan for future coordination of space weather prediction efforts. Over the last year, the two groups have learned to work together to quickly and efficiently, often with only a moment's notice after spotting a solar eruption. While solar storm damage to communications and GPS satellites is of particular concern to the US Air Force Weather Agency (AFWA) since they provide space weather warnings to all of DoD services. AFWA has round-the-clock space monitoring systems that can alert the DoD and NASA of recent solar flares or coronal mass ejections on the sun's surface. NASA's Space Weather Laboratory, in turn, offers state of the art modeling of such events to predict their direction and size, and whether any satellites are in imminent danger.
