The site is the nexus of the largest network of stone causeways of the ancient Maya world, and it contains many engraved and sculpted stelae that document ceremonial life and important events of the Late Classic Period (AD 600–900) of Mesoamerican civilization. There is a village nearby, where one can learn about some of the Mayan customs and crafts.A delicious buffet near the Coba Mayan village ... we sat upstairs on the mezzanine, with a view overlooking the lake. We were joined by a very friendly pair of women from Trinidad ... mother and daughter, now living in Canada. |
