| 説明 | Built circa 1855, this Gothic Revival-style mansion was built for Melvin C. Clarke, a lawyer whom died in the Civil War at the Battle of Antietam. The mansion was later owned by the Nye and Bosley families. The house is clad in red brick with stone trim, a gabled roof with gable parapets, a tower at the front entrance with and octagonal third floor and crenellated parapet, a trefoil attic window and stone pinnacles at the front gable, a one-story bay window at the front gable, double-hung windows, a stone base, and porches with wooden columns and decorative trim. The building is a contributing structure in the Marietta Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, and expanded to its present size in 2001. Today, the house operates as a historic house museum. |
