The court deliberated on the matter for hours before he was arrested. In the late hours of January 18, president Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested and was indicted for the December 3 insurrection.He was impeached and suspended from presidential duties on December 14, 2024 days after he tried to impose martial law. His removal from office, however, will have to be confirmed by a court.The visuals from outside the court building where hundreds of his supporters had gathered with flags of South Korea as well as the United States of America. The crowd of supporters of the arrested sitting president of the country were chanting slogans to protest his arrest and “stop the steal” - a term borrowed from the US election’s right wing stakeholders.His supporters had also left large bouquets of flowers and stuck messages of support near his official residence located near Hannam-daero in Yongsan District of Seoul. Days before his detention, gatherings of protesting supporters were also seen near the residence. |
