We did see a couple of lizards which evaded capture, and a dead newts in a vernal pool that had frozen a few weeks prior. The next spot I stopped at was at the warmest part of the day, and I found this salamander under a large flat rock on the wet surface near the perimeter of a glade. As I photographed this animal clouds overtook the sun, providing perfect lighting. Jefferson County, Missouri |
