| 説明 | Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Mendel Goldberg lights a public menorah placed by Chabad-Lubavitch in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, the 8th and final night of the eight-day holiday of Hanukkah. The menorah is part of Chabad-Lubavitch's worldwide Hanukkah awareness campaign that includes 15,000 large public menorahs in more than 100 countries around the world, including in front of landmarks such as the White House, the Eiffel Tower, and in Trafalgar Square in London. The campaign was launched in 1973 by the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, the most influential rabbi in modern history, forever altering the awareness and practice of the festival. This year’s public lighting carries added significance as it marks 50 years since the first public menorah which was lit at the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia in 1974. Today, public menorahs and Hanukkah displays have become a staple of Jewish cultural and American public life.Chabad-Lubavitch’s Hanukkah campaign will reach 8 million Jews in more than 100 countries this year.Credit: Chabad.orgThis photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations for use in reporting on the events captured in the photo.
