| 説明 | Just off of Calea Victoriei in Bucharest, around the corner on Bulevardul Dacia, is a small park called Parcul Ion I.C. Brătianu. Brătianu was prime minister of Romania five separate times between 1909 and 1927 (and held a fair number of other offices in between); his father had been prime minister in the prior century. His home was nearby and ran the entire distance from Strada Biserica Amzei to B-dul Dacia, which is to say that he had one of the grandest homes in Bucharest outside of the hereditary nobility. The rather graffiti'd building you see here, which sits at the back of Parcul Ion I.C. Brătianu wasn't part of that house as such, but it is associated with it. part of a complex known as Așezămintele Ion I.C. Brătianu ("Ion I.C. Brătianu Settlements"), it was originally (1930) a library. Used for various purposes in the Communist era, it's apparently been more or less sitting there for almost three decades, owned by the National Library, who haven't done much with it. According to a lengthy 2022 article in Romanian at asezamintelebratianu.romaniandesignweek.ro/articol.php?id..., there was a public tour of the interior one time in 2022, and a group of architects are trying to work with the National Library to get the building rehabilitated in time for its centennial in 2030. |
