| 説明 | Built in 1915, this Byzantine Revival and Beaux Arts-style building was designed by Weber, Werner and Adkins for the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, founded in 1819. The building was expanded in 1932 with an educational wing, designed by Wilbur A. Meanor, and an activities center in 1958. The building is clad in limestone with a dome clad in green terra cotta tiles, an open lantern, a balustrade around the top of the dome, a drum at the base of the dome with arched windows, stained glass windows, cornices with dentils and modillions, a front portico with corinthian columns and a front pediments, and a buff brick rear wing added in 1932. The church was restored under the direction of Rambusch and Associates and Paul Marshall in 1990-1992. The building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Charleston Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Today, the building remains in use by the First Presbyterian Church congregation. |
