| 説明 | John Steele (1912-1969) was an American paratrooper with the 82nd AirBorne during World War II. His unit was blown into the town of St Mere Eglise during D-Day and his parachute fouled on the church. Wounded by enemy fire, he played dead and survived while many of his companions were killed as they descended into the town. This memorial to him remains on the church.
