| 説明 | Snow capped mountains seen as we drive into Sonmarg in Kashmir, India. Sonmarg is located in the Kashmir Valley, at an altitude of 2,730 mtr above sea level. Combined with the alpine meadows that bloom in summer as well as rivers and lakes stocked with fish, Sonmarg is a notable tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. Sonmarg also has strategic importance for the Indian Army especially after the Kargil war. The town also has some historical importance as it was a gateway to the erstwhile Silk Road. Sonmarg is also one of the hop off points for the annual Hindu Amarnath pilgrimage, as well as the gateway to the neighbouring union territory of Ladakh throug the Zoji La pass.
