説明 | Albrecht Dürer's Rhinoceros is a well-known woodcut from 1515, even though Dürer never saw a real rhinoceros. He based the artwork on a description and sketch of an Indian rhinoceros brought to Lisbon that later died in a shipwreck. Dürer’s version shows the animal with armor-like plates and other imagined details. Despite these inaccuracies, the image became very popular in Europe and was considered an accurate portrayal for centuries. Though later replaced by more realistic depictions, it has been said that Dürer's rhinoceros had a profound influence on art. Here is my version of his drawing. |
