| 説明 | As we now prepare to drive out of Gulmarg, Kashmir, India, I could not help but photograph this far view of a lone Hindu temple in the centre of the Gulmarg valley. This is a more zoomed view of this temple, This is Maharani Temple, commonly known as Shiv Temple of Gulmarg. This temple was built by a Hindu ruler Maharaja Hari Singh for his wife Maharani Mohini Bai Sisodia in 1915. The temple was considered as the stately possession of the Dogra kings and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and his consort Parvati. The temple is a popular tourist destination in Gulmarg as you can see from the crowds around it. We could not go there, as it was part of that extortionate taxi ride I mentioned in earlier captions. Some song sequences from Bollywood movies were shot here, one of them being the song Jai Jai Shiv Shankar from 1974 Bollywood film Aap Ki Kasam. (Gulmarg, Kashmir, India, Apr. 2024) |
