| 説明 | Built in 1938-1940, this Gothic Revival-style building was designed by McCarthy, Smith and Eppig for the Queen of Angels Catholic Church, founded in 1910 to serve the rapidly growing Lincoln Square neighborhood, which had recently seen the completion of what is now the Brown Line in 1907. Adjacent to the church is a Rectory, built circa 1924 in the Gothic Revival style, which bears some resemblance to the church in its materials and motifs, but with more intricate details, a cross-gable roof, and rectilinear window bays. The main church building is clad in bedford limestone with gothic arched bays, shallow pilasters, a large front bay on the central tower home to a window with tracery forming a cross, decorative carved reliefs, a gabled roof, and a shallow hipped roof atop the tower with a metal cross. The building now serves as the Queen of Angels Church at Queen of Apostles Parish, after the merger of Queen of Angels Parish and St. Matthias Parish in 2021. |
