| 説明 | Built in 1929, this Art Deco-style building was designed by Wittenberg and Delony to serve as the Dunbar Junior-Senior High School, named for poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, which served the Black Community of Little Rock during pre-Civil Rights segregation. The building is clad in red brick with stone trim, with towers at the main entrance bays, replacement windows, pillars on the exterior of the front facade, a central wing with the main entrance bays and a gymnasium/auditorium wing to the rear, which is flanked by two classroom wings to the south and east, which enclose a front courtyard that is landscaped with a grassy lawn, concrete and brick paths, and trees, and an addition to the north of the original building that contains a more modern gymnasium. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is a contributing structure in the Paul Laurence Dunbar School Neighborhood Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building today serves as Dunbar Magnet Middle School, serving the central section of Little Rock, being a principal feeder school for Little Rock Central High School. |
