説明 | This got released the other day so I can finally make it public. Be sure to read the press release over here: chandra.si.edu/photo/2025/cosmic/I've used an ultra broad band approach for this old favorite galaxy:1. Radio frequency in magenta, mainly visible at the very center as two lobed, small jets. These data come from VLA program 20B-241 PI: T. Fischer, reduced by Andy Sargent. Further processing to mask radio artifacts and accentuate details by me.2. Narrowband hydrogen-alpha data come from a wonderful, old Hubble program.3. Infrared light from JWST F770W (7.7 μm) and F2100W (21 μm). This and the narrowband h-alpha data are combined into a heavily reddened RGB image.4. X-ray light in blue from Chandra! Nancy Wolk over at Chandra X-ray Center combined all of the available archived observations into one magical deep x-ray view.My hope was to combine all these data into a single beautiful image that shows better than ever how the active galactic nucleus (AGN) of this galaxy is affecting it as a whole. The outflows are most apparent in x-ray and radio light, but the rest of the galaxy is only visible at other wavelengths. I went to a lot of trouble to get rid of the JWST diffraction spikes and replace the center which was heavily saturated with alternate data that wasn't saturated. Some small, but important details are happening there. |
