| 説明 | Tyneside bridges at dusk on 22 August 2023. Looking upstream from the Gateshead Millennium Bridge to the 1928 Tyne Bridge, decked out with the branding of A J Bell, main sponsor of the Great North Run. Each September, 60,000 people take part in the world's greatest half marathon, running through an area renowned for the warmth of the welcome given to entrants of all abilities from all over the world.Also visible are the 1876 Swing Bridge, upon opening to traffic the biggest of its kind in the world. Behind is Stephenson's 1849 double-deck High Level Bridge, the first road and rail bridge in the world, and behind that is the Queen Elizabeth II Metro bridge, completed in 1978 but not opened to public services until 1981. Beyond are the two further crossings, the 1906 King Edward 1 rail bridge and the 1983 Redheugh (Red-yuff) Bridge, replacing a previous structure of 1901, itself replacing one of 1871. |
