| 説明 | You can barely make out the head (centre) and tail (top right) of the Red- tailed Racer (snake) in his terrarium in the reptile section of Singapore Zoo. Females can reach a length of up to 2.4 mtr, while males are generally a little bit smaller but brighter in colouration. Red-Tailed Racers live and spend their life in the trees and in cavities of trees and seldom descend to the ground. When stressed, they may inflate their neck, making them appear larger. Red- tailed Racers have a foul temper and can show much attitude and strike at or bite an unwary handler. Although unpredictable, some have been tamed through proper handling. Red- tailed Racers feed almost exclusively on birds, birds' eggs, lizards, and bats. They catch them in mid-air whilst hanging amongst branches. Captive Red- tailed Racers are often fed rodents. Notes about the Red- tailed Racer and about the Singapore Zoo itself appear elsewhere in this album. (Singapore, Sept. 2023) |
